“228 So. Spring St.. The first telephone line between San Francisco and Los Angeles had just been opened, and long distance calls to the Bay City were being stimulated. The young man, Roy E. Jillson, was messenger boy then and was still an employee of the telephone company in 1934.’

Fifty cents a minute between two cities in California! Today’s cellphone service truly is a bargain. I call my brother in Northern California (I live in Nebraska), talk for an hour and a half or two, and there is no extra charge on my bill, which rarely exceeds $50, because I use my cellphone almost exclusively as a phone (no texting or extra cost services).
