Greenpeace co-founder: No scientific proof humans are dominant cause of warming climate

A co-founder of Greenpeace told lawmakers there is no evidence man is contributing to climate change, and said he left the group when it became more interested in politics than the environment.
Patrick Moore, a Canadian ecologist and business consultant who was a member of Greenpeace from 1971-86, told members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee environmental groups like the one he helped establish use faulty computer models and scare tactics in promoting claims man-made gases are heating up the planet.
“There is no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are the dominant cause of the minor warming of the Earth’s atmosphere over the past 100 years,” he said.
Even if the planet is warming up, Moore claimed it would not be calamitous for men, which he described as a “subtropical species.”
Skeptics of manmade climate change say there is no evidence the Earth is warming. A UN report on the scientific data behind global warming released in September indicated that global surface temperatures have not increased for the past 15 years, but scientists who believe climate change due to man is occurring say it has merely paused because of several factors and will soon resume.

attributes that to a combination of several factors, including natural variability, reduced heating from the sun and the ocean acting like a “heat sink” to suck up extra warmth in the atmosphere.
Moore said he left Greenpeace in the 1980s because he believed it became more interested in politics than science.
“After 15 years in the top committee I had to leave as Greenpeace took a sharp turn to the political left, and began to adopt policies that I could not accept from my scientific perspective,” he said. “Climate change was not an issue when I abandoned Greenpeace, but it certainly is now.”

This isn’t really news. Patrick Moore left Greenpeace in the 80’s and has been expressing these sort of opinions for at least 10 years.

You and I at least agree that the planet has warmed and cooled throughout its history. We both understand the basis of the greenhouse gases theory and the global warming theory. Where we diverge is that I still don’t think the last warming period was man made. I also think we are moving into a period of global cooling and started it three years ago. Still, and most important, I agree with you that we should reduce our production of greenhouse gases simply because pollution is bad, whether we have reached the point of impacting world wide temperatures or not.

I need to post a whole article on Fox. There are Fox Business, Fox local, Fox News, Fox Commentators, Fox Analysis, Fox Sports, Fox Movies, etc. Each has their own role and rules. I think most people take umbrage with the commentators like Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. They are NOT part of the News section at Fox News. They are more like the Oprah, or Bill Maher, Colbert, or John Stewart types. Most of the news section are unknown to those who don’t trust fox news… But in general, we can agree, any news source today should be questioned as they all have a political spin, bias and are more concerned with ratings than fact checking.

That is an earlier article I posted. I watched this great film by a person who believes in Global Warming but has a much more scientific approach. It’s called Cool It. See if you can track it down and watch it. Let me know what you think.

Yeah I think that’s the one you recommended to me a while ago. I will try harder to get around to watching it this time. Though I haven’t seen it I think I’ve seen the guy interviewed before and yeah, he has interesting – slightly offbeat – ideas about climate change, so I might find it interesting.
And though I don’t know that I will be ever convinced not to be cynical about anything with the name ‘Fox’ attached to it* – you gave a good response there, so I will get back in my box 🙂
* Oh, except ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. Did you see that movie? That was rad! And the book. Roald Dahl was all right, huh?
