Who doesn’t a love a great view when soaring at 35,000 feet?

A new private plane design brings world class views to every passenger—without any windows.

Technicon Design’s Paris based team designed the jet to display to 360-degree views that are simulated on internal screens from external cameras that capture the surrounding environment in real time, according to the Daily Mail.

The images displayed in the interior cabin—including the walls and even the ceiling—give passengers the feeling of flying through the air in an invisible vessel.

For business minded clientele, the screens can also be used for video conferences. Or if you’re in the mood for a some entertainment, kick back and relax with a state of the art in flight movie. For claustrophobic passengers, the screens can also be used to project relaxing landscapes like a tropical beach.

Technicon Design created the design for a National Business Aviation Association and has since won an award at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards in the exterior design category.

“I challenged the team to break out of conventional thinking with regards to a business jet exterior and interior,” Gareth Davies, design director at Technicon Design’s studio near Paris, told the Daily Mail.

“We quickly settled on the controversial yet interesting idea of removing the windows from the cabin and using existing or very near future technology to display the exterior environment on flexible screens.”

A transparent plane might be a nightmare for some fearful travelers but if the design takes off, it will definitely one of the coolest ways to travel.

Take a look at the plane in action.

Artists stencil 9,000 bodies onto Normandy beach to mark Peace Day

Haunting reminder of millions of lives lost in war as artists stencil 9,000 bodies onto Normandy beach to mark Peace Day

  • British led project covered the famous coastline in poignant silhouettes
  • A team of 500 artists and volunteers contributed the moving installation
  • The ‘fallen’ were left to be washed away by the tide at the end of the day

A pair of British artists have created this stunning installation of 9,000 silhouettes on a D-Day Landings beach to mark international Peace Day.

The project, named, ‘The Fallen’ is a tribute to the civilians, German forces and Allies who lost their lives during the Operation Neptune landing on June 6, 1944.

The design was the brainchild of Jamie Wardley, 33, and Andy Moss, 50.

Together with a team of volunteers the pair travelled to Arromanches beach, Normandy, to create the silhouettes, which were individually drawn into the sand.

Those taking part made the shape of a person by putting down a stencil and raking the surface to create a distinctive figure.

The shapes were then left to the mercy of the tide which washed away the ‘fallen’ after around four and a half hours.

Speaking of the idea behind the project Wardley said: ‘The Fallen is a sobering reminder of what happens when peace is not present.

‘The idea is to create a visual representation of what is otherwise unimaginable, the thousands of human lives lost during the hours of the tide during the Second World War Normandy landings.

‘People understand that so many lives were lost that day but it’s incredibly difficult to picture that number.

‘You could see the horrific casualty of war when you stood on the cliff looking down at the beach.

‘Watching the tide come in and wash the bodies away was symbolic of all the lives lost in all wars, not just during the Normandy Landings.’

Veterans and families, including some who have lost loved ones in recent conflicts have been involved in the project.

Wardley, who has been working with partner since 2009, said: ‘We turned up to the beach with a team of 60 people but by the end we had over 500 people taking part.

‘There were people from all over the world who had heard about the event and travelled all the way to France to take part.

‘There were others who happened to be walking by and wanted to get involved.

‘It showed that people from all over totally understood the message behind it and I found it very overwhelming.

‘Some people told us that they had lost family in the Second World War and others said they had lost loved ones in Afghanistan and wanted to pay a tribute to them.

‘We finished all the stencils at about 7.30pm and everyone gathered and waited for the tide to come in.

‘The last silhouette was washed away at about 10pm and it was incredibly moving.”

75th Anniversary of Mallard’s Steam Train Speed Record of 126 mph

How to drive the world record-breaking steam train Mallard: Locomotive gets a final clean and polish ahead of celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of its 126mph landmark journey

  • LNER Class 4 engine broke the world speed record of 126mph along the East Coast Line new Grantham in July 1938
  • The locomotive has been reunited with its five sister trains at the National Railway Museum in York
  • A ‘Great Gathering’ to celebrate the Mallard’s achievement is taking place until 17 July

By VICTORIA WOOLLASTON

A world record-breaking locomotive has received its final clean and polish ahead of its 75th anniversary celebrations.

On 3 July 1938 the Mallard steam locomotive reached speeds of 126mph along the East Coast Main Line near Grantham and broke the world steam record – a record which still stands today.

To celebrate the anniversary of this record-breaking success, the LNER Class 4 steam engine is being reunited with its five sister locomotives, including the Dominion of Canada and the Dwight D. Eisenhower, for a ‘Great Gathering’ at the National Railway Museum in York.

To drive the record-breaking journey, driver Joe Duddington would have squeezed the release handle on top of the reverser (D) lever and pushed it forward from the floor. To drive the Mallard, driver Joseph Duddington would have squeezed the release handle on top of the reverser (D) lever and pushed it forward from the floor. He then would have then opened the cylinder drain cock (L) by turning the valve clockwise. Duddington would then have blown the whistle (C) a couple of times using the whistle handle to announce the train was about to move forward. To start moving, he would have released the brakes (B) using the brake gauge (G). The top lever would have been moved from right to left to release the brakes on the engine and then he would have opened the throttle (A). During the journey, Duddington would have monitored the train using the main boiler pressure gauge (E) and the steam chest pressure gauge (F). The injector steam and boiler water gauges are at (H) and (I), the manifold isolation valve is shown at (J) and the fire hole is pictured at (K)

Mystery of 1938 Time Traveler with Cell Phone

Mystery Of 1938 ‘Time Traveler’ With Cell Phone Solved? (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 04/04/2013 4:41 pm EDT  |  Updated: 04/04/2013 6:04 pm EDT

The mystery surrounding a video that appears to show a young woman talking on a cell phone in 1938 may be solved. The explanation, if true, is sure to disappoint many conspiracy theorists.

The black-and-white footage shows a group of young people, possibly factory workers, walking out of a building. A brunette in a light-colored dress smiles into the camera, her hand pressed to her ear. She is holding what looks to be a large portable phone.

The Daily Mail reports that the clip surfaced online about a year ago and kicked off speculation about a time traveler caught on camera. Recently, a YouTube commenter who goes by the handle Planetcheck claimed to know the woman in the footage.

Though the version of the YouTube clip with Planetcheck’s original comments has been removed, the Daily Mail and Yahoo! News blog The Sideshow copied some of Planetcheck’s claims before the video disappeared.

According to the posts, Planetcheck professes to be the grandchild of the cell phone woman. Her name is Gertrude Jones, Planetcheck writes, and she was not a time traveler.

“She was 17 years old,” Planetcheck writes. “I asked her about this video and she remembers it quite clearly. She says Dupont [the company that reportedly owns the factory in the video] had a telephone communications section in the factory. They were experimenting with wireless telephones. Gertrude and five other women were given these wireless phones to test out for a week. Gertrude is talking to one of the scientists holding another wireless phone who is off to her right as she walks by.”

Wireless phones in the 1930s? YouTubers were skeptical.

Answering YouTube critics who questioned why such an amazing device received so little notice for several decades, Planetcheck blamed the factory owners:

Maybe they decided it was too far advanced for people and they abandoned the idea. … Ideas are hatched, prototypes are made and sometimes like this phone they are forgotten until somebody discovers some long lost film of the world first wireless phone and marvels at it.

Planetcheck also claimed to still have the phone in a glass box somewhere. (We’ll believe that when we see it.)

David Mikkelson, founder of Snopes.com, a website that specializes in analyzing popular Internet theories, told The Huffington Post in a telephone interview that videos like this one are as difficult to disprove as they are to prove.

“You can take any piece of WWII footage showing someone holding something to the side of their head talking, and claim it is a time traveling cell phone user,” Mikkelson said. “Film clips aren’t of sufficient resolution to see what the people are carrying. It could be anything from a handkerchief to a hearing aid, or who knows what. And this video is silent, so you can’t even tell if the person is engaged in a two-way conversation.”

Mikkelson added it is plausible Dupont could have been working on some sort of hand-held prototype, similar to a walkie-talkie. Still, he remained skeptical.

“I doubt it would have just been handed out to a young woman working at the factory,” he said. “And why isn’t there documentation?”

Neither Planetcheck nor Dupont could not be reached for comment.

A similar “time traveler” video captured the imaginations of conspiracy theorists in 2010. The clip consists of unreleased footage from a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film and shows a woman in the background walking while appearing to talk on a cell phone. Was she a time traveler, or was she just holding her hand up to her face as she passed in front of the camera?

And who could forget the photo of a 19th-century man who looks uncannily like actor Nicolas Cage? While some speculate that Cage is a time traveler, others joked that he might be a vampire. Cage has denied both rumors.
