One Man Has Written Virtually Every Major Pop Song Of The Last 20 Years. And You’ve Probably Never Heard His Name

Random Celebrity Article By   on January 26, 2014

Pop quiz: Who has been the most influential and powerful person in pop music over the last 20 years? Britney Spears? Madonna? Michael Jackson? Beyonce? Simon Cowell? Sure, these people have all been extraordinarily successful, but what if we told you that there’s one man whose musical accomplishments easily trumps all of these artists? And what if we told you that most people have probably never even heard of this person and definitely wouldn’t recognize him walking down the street? Sounds impossible right? Well, if at any point in the last 20 years you’ve heard a song from The Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, N’Sync, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Ace of Base, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, Bon Jovi, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Pink, Justin Bieber… then you’ve unwittingly been subject to the creations of a Swedish born musical genius who goes by the name of Max Martin. Believe it or not, over the past 15-20 years Max Martin has been the brains, ears and talent behind virtually every hit pop song that has been released to the screaming masses. He’s personally responsible for churning out more Billboard singles than Michael Jackson and MadonnaCOMBINED. And since he is essentially unrecognizable to the average person, that might make him the most famous, non-famous person on the planet. This is his story.

Who is Max Martin?

This past April, the Backstreet Boys celebrated the 20-year anniversary of their career by being inducted into the Hollywood Hall of Fame. On hand to give remarks was an un-remarkable looking man named Max Martin. Martin, with his Seth Rogen-esque neck beard and hair down to his shoulders, wrote many of the BSB’s hit songs. During his speech, Martin reminisced fondly of his first encounter with the Boys. He met the future superstars in a hip Stockholm restaurant back in the mid-nineties. He told them he was excited to hear them sing in the studio later that evening. In response, the band stood up and serenaded him on the spot. “I got the goosebumps. It was amazing”. For millions of people around the world, this would have been the event of a lifetime. But for Martin, it was just another day in the life.

So who is Max Martin aka Martin Karl Sandberg? Was he a huge rock star in Sweden? Not really. A powerful record executive? Nope. A Svengali-like manager who knows all the secrets to success in the music business? Hardly. If he was any one of these things, it would be hard to explain why the most popular song produced by his own band, “It’s Alive”, has fewer than 1000 views on Youtube today.

Max Martin - Life Story

Max may not have gotten super famous with his hard rock band “It’s Alive”, but he did receive two important gifts from the experience: 1) When the band recorded their first and only album, they hired a producer named Denniz PoP and Denniz is the person who suggested that “Martin Karl Sandberg” should change his name forever to Max Martin. 2) While recording their album, Max astutely learned all the tricks of the producing trade from Denniz. In an interview years later, Max explained: “I didn’t even know what a producer did. I spent two years – day and night – in that studio trying to learn what the hell was going on.”

Max Martin with Britney Spears

When “It’s Alive” flopped at record stores, Martin immediately decided that he really belonged on the other side of the glass in a recording studio. He began assisting Denniz Pop as a sound engineer and song writer for all the incoming talent. One of the first projects that Martin collaborated on was fellow Swedish band Ace of Base and their 1995 album “The Bridge”. This album eventually sold six million copies worldwide. As big of a success as that was, it was his next project that catapulted Martin to astronomical success. Impressed by his songwriting and producing work, an A&R executive from the record company Jive decided Max was the perfect person to work on the debut album of a fresh young boy band called The Backstreet Boys. Martin co-wrote the singles “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart),” “As Long as You Love Me,” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”, arguably the three most popular songs on the band’s self-titled debut album. The album went on to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide.

What is perhaps most remarkable about Martin’s career is the consistency with which he churns out the songs that find their way into the ears of millions of people around the globe. Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Avril Lavigne. More than half of the Backstreet Boys’ 1999 album Millennium. The list goes on and on and on and on. Since 1999, Max has written or co-written 16 songs that hit #1 on Billboard. There aren’t enough metaphors to properly describe his success. He’s like the Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Roger Federer, Muhammad Ali, Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt… of music. Here is a list of some of the biggest pop songs that Max Martin has written and produced:

Katy Perry: “I Kissed a Girl”, “Teenage Dream”, “California Gurls”, “Roar”, “Dark Horse”

Britney Spears: “Oops!… I Did It Again”, “Stronger”, “…Baby One More Time”, “Till The World Ends”

Backstreet Boys: “Quit Playing Games With My Heart”, “I Want It That Way”, “Larger Than Life”, “As Long As You Love Me”, “Shape of my Heart”

Kelly Clarkson: “Since You’ve Been Gone”, “My Life Would Suck Without You”

N’Sync: “Tearin’ Up My Heart”, “It’s Gonna Be Me”, “I Want You Back”

Taylor Swift: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “22″

If you are a Spotify user, I compiled a playlist of Max Martin’s biggest and most popular hit songs. To listen, just paste the following text into your Spotify search box:

Max Martin ASCAP Awards

For Martin, it’s the fun of the work that keeps him going: “If I did it because it was my job, and I only did it to make money, I don’t think I’d still be doing it.” Which isn’t to say that the man behind countless hits hasn’t found financial success. From the royalties and producing fees he has received from all of this fun he’s been having, Max Martin has earned a personal net worth of$250 million dollars. That’s right. He’s worth a quarter of a billion dollars and you’ve probably never heard his name.

Max has won ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year award six times. His most recent #1 single is Katy Perry’s “Roar” which has been nominated for several Grammys including Song of the Year. He also contributed to the album “Red” by Taylor Swift which has been nominated for Album of the Year. Whether you love the songs or hate them, whether you can admit that behind the corniness of “As Long as You Love Me” is a pop mastermind, or not, one thing is for certain: Max Martin isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Maybe if the accolades and records keep piling up, people might actually start knowing his name and face!

Taylor Swift Leaves HUGE Tip For Very Lucky Fans

Taylor Swift Leaves HUGE Tip For Very Lucky Fans

taylor swift

Last Friday night was a very good one for the head chef at Ralph’s Italian Restaurant in Philadelphia.

And it was all because of Taylor Swift.

She didn’t even kiss anyone! And after her creepy fan incident, we could use some good T-Swift news.

Instead, she and her tour mates, Ed Sheeran and Austin Mahone, were craving some late-night Italian after their show. They chose Ralph’s.

The head chef immediately called his mother.

“I called my mom to tell her Swift was there, and she wanted me to take a picture because she is a big fan,” he told E! News.

“My son has autism, and while I’m at work my mom and my son love to listen to her music. He loves her music!”

Swift took pictures with the staff and had some more surprises in store. She handed over two tickets to her concert for the following night.

“It was so kind-hearted of her,” the chef told E! News. “My son is 11. It was my son and I’s first concert we’ve ever been to! It was really special.”

And to top it all of, she left a $500 tip.

That’s some good karma right there, Swifty!

Taylor Swift Update

Good for her…

Taylor Swift bashes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for Golden Globe jokes, suggests they are going to hell

Published March 05, 2013

FoxNews.com

The lovely and talented Taylor Swift

It’s sometimes hard to believe that the country cutie is only 23.

Taylor Swift is finally firing back at Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for their bit about her during the Golden Globes.

In the April issue of Vanity Fair, Swift opened up about the Golden Globes moment and some misconceptions about her highly publicized love life.

“You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people,” Swift told the magazine. “Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’”

Guess Swift didn’t find Fey and Poehler’s jokes to be all that funny. But the audience did. And Swift told the magazine she’s well aware many find her relationship ups and downs to be entertaining.

But she said that she is not the serial dater that everyone sees her as.

“If you want some big revelation, since 2010 I have dated exactly two people,” she said, in a rare moment of openness about her love life. “[T]he fact that there are slide shows of a dozen guys that I either hugged on a red carpet or met for lunch or wrote a song with. . . it’s just kind of ridiculous.”

And though Swift refuses to get into the specifics of her various breakups, she said she thinks there is nothing wrong with writing about them in her songs.

“For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that’s taking something that potentially should be celebrated—a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way—that’s taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist.”

And something else that’s apparently peeved the pop singer? Those pesky rumors that she was shopping for a house near ex-boyfriend Conor Kennedy’s home.

“People say that about me; that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like—that’s a thing that I apparently do. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real-estate market just to freak you out so you leave me.” Swift vented to the magazine. “One of these things I say to myself to calm myself down when I feel like it’s all too much . . . If there’s a pregnancy rumor, people will find out it’s not true when you wind up not being pregnant, like nine months from now, and if there’s a house rumor, they’ll find out it’s not true when you are actively not ever spotted at that house.”

Though Swift refused to talk about her most recent breakup –with One Direction singer Harry Styles—an unnamed source was “authorized” to talk about it with Vanity Fair.

“He wore her down,” the source said of Styles, adding that he “chased” the songstress before she agreed to date him. “He was all, like, ‘You’re amazing—I want to be with you. I want to do this.’”

Shortly after they began dating, the source claims he was spotted kissing another girl and though Styles and Swift reconciled, she worried he was “looking at every girl.”  The relationship eventually fell apart.

Styles’s rep, Benny Tarantini told the mag that the source’s claims are “undeniably false.”

Update on Fox – Swift

Today’s news on Michael J. Fox a 51 year old man who insulted a 22 year girl over her love life publicly (Taylor Swift) apparently apologized.  I have a son 25 and a daughter 28, and I know first hand that young people date often until they find the right person.  If I was Taylor Swift’s dad, and she is 22, beautiful, smart, and rich, I would advise her to be even more careful of who she stays with than she is now.  Even with the apology, having someone aged 51 dissing a 22 year old for not settling down with one person is terrible.  I can only hazard to guess how Michael J. Fox acted as a child star at age 22.  I doubt he was even as close to being normal and stable as Taylor Swift.  It is good he apologized, and just like when her award was yanked out of her hands, Taylor Swift stayed positive.  But why should she have to?  Why don’t people leave her alone?

Report: Taylor Swift touchy over love life jokes, accepts Michael J. Fox’s apology

Chart-topping albums and wheelbarrow-fulls of awards were once what Taylor Swift was best know for.

Not anymore.

After dating over the past four years a reported 13 guys, all of whom were famous or from famous families, and famously writing songs about several of them, the 23-year-old has become the subject of several unkind jokes.

And apparently it’s taking its toll.

“[N]ow she’s the butt of jokes on Saturday Night Live, in the tabloids and on the late night shows,” an insider told RadarOnline. “She laughed it off, but the jokes made about her at the Golden Globes got under her skin.”

It looks like she might be doing something to stop the onslaught.

Following the Golden Globes joke, in which host Tina Fey jokingly warned Swift to stay away from Michael J. Fox’s handsome young son, Fox himself joined the fray, offering when asked: “Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right? What a way to build a career. I wouldn’t even know who she was.”

Apparently the remark, even though it was said at least partially in jest, hit home, as Swift herself felt the need to let fans know that Fox had in fact apologized to her.

“Hey everybody, Michael J. Fox got in touch with me today and we are good,” Swift tweeted. “Thank you for having my back.”

According to RadarOnline’s source, the negative attention may end up having a positive outcome.

“She really wants to make an effort to slow down and not jump from boyfriend to boyfriend,” said the pal. “In a weird way all the negative press has really opened her eyes and will be good for her!”

Michael J. Fox disses Taylor Swift

I like Michael J. Fox, but he is totally off base here.  Taylor Swift is beautiful, talented, smart and successful.  My son is in a great relationship right now and hopefully things will go well, but if he were unattached, I would let him date Taylor Swift in a heartbeat.  I wish rock girls would take a cue from country singer girls and stay relatively wholesome.  Miley Cyrus aside…  Taylor Swift gets all this heat for musical boyfriends…  Earth to Michael J. Fox – 22 year old girls date a lot of different guys.  They are fresh out of school, adults for the first time, in high demand, and don’t know what they want.  Give her a break.  Singers write about their relationships and break-ups?  Oh my God, she might be the first one to do that!  (heavy sarcasm added).  Lastly, you might not know who she is Michael J. Fox, but I bet in a poll of people, a lot more know her than know who you are…  She probably is getting close or passed you in earnings too at just age 22.  Perhaps jealousy is involved?

Michael J. Fox: Taylor Swift is never, ever, ever dating my son

Published January 18, 2013 TVGuide

The lovely and talented Taylor Swift.

It’s sometimes hard to believe that the country cutie is only 22.

Michael J. Fox does not want his son Sam to be Taylor Swift‘s next target.

On Sunday’s Golden Globes, co-host Tina Fey cautioned the serial dater to stay away from Sam, who was Mr. Golden Globe. “She needs some time to learn about herself,” Fey quipped.

Vulture later caught up with the “Family Ties” alum who admitted, “I don’t keep up with it all, but Taylor Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right? What a way to build a career.”

Fox added that if Sam brought her home, “I wouldn’t even know who she was.” That is, until he hears her next breakup tune: “‘Sam, You Piece of Sh–.’ Oh … that was the girl you brought home!”
