Reasons Readers Stop Reading a Book

My fellow authors and writers – this infographic can be instructional for you.  The number one reason readers toss books aside – SLOW OR BORING.  Yep, you have to hook them in the first few chapters.  See below for more good statistical information:

I like to do consumer research. I am telling stories in my head, but if I want others to enjoy them, I need to find out what they want. Each era has a style of reading. Today, with instagrams, clips, movies on demand, downloads, etc. No one has the patience to get hooked on a book past 100 pages. As authors, I think we need to tailor our story telling at least a bit to match reader expectations. Once they are hooked, we can wow them even more. If they stop at the cover and the first chapter we don’t gain anything.

      • That’s very true! We have to hook them fast and KEEP them hooked. Never let the line or your book have too much slack or you’ll lose them, and you will have wasted all that effort.
