Discover America like Never Before

It being one of the most diverse and largest countries in the entire world, U.S.A. is home to an amazing lot of tourist attractions ranging from the natural wonders in Alaska, Yellowstone to the skyscrapers of Chicago and New York City and the sunny and sandy beaches of Florida, California and Hawaii. With such a huge range of tourist destinations, it is a hard task to just highlight a few of them. But here are the top tourist attractions in America.

Grand Canyon

This is one of the greatest tourist attraction sites in the United States. It is located in the vast Arizona region. It has been curved by the Colorado River over several millions of years. It has a depth of 1 mile, (1.6km) and is 277 miles (446km) long. Its colorful and vast size makes it very famous.

Manhattan

What do you think of mostly when you see New York City? Which pictures of New York do you have in your album? Manhattan is what many people crave for when they see the picture of New York. It is one of the five boroughs of New York. It is an area full of skyscrapers that is full of activities to do. Here, you will take pictures of the Statute of Liberty, climb the Empire State building to the top, take a stroll in the Central Park, visit the museum, and window shop in the famous 5th Avenue street.

Amazing Kirie Art

Give This Guy A Pad Of Paper, And He’ll Make Something Incredible.

SEPTEMBER 2, 2014
Akira Nagaya, a self-taught Japenese Kirie (literally “cut paper” in Japanese) artist has spent the past 30 years of his life learning one of the most ancient and beautiful arts in the world.

It requires patience, and brilliance, but most importantly… a willingness to endure years of paper cuts!

But what he creates though is nothing short of the brilliance you’d expect from a true master.

When Akira first started as a sushi chef over 30 years ago, he first learned the art of delicate paper cutting through food preparation.

He would continue the art of using paper and a utility knife as he enjoyed the work.

Eventually increasing his skill to sheer mastery level.

Later, this 47 year old would eventually open his own restaurant and even decorate the walls with his creations.

It didn’t take long for others in the community to discover his work and spread it to the world.

(via Spoon & Tamago)

Amazingly enough, TV crews eventually showed up to learn about this amazing art and Akira’s work spread even further than he could ever imagine.  “That was the first time I even considered what I had been doing as art,” recalls Nagaya.

If you’d like to see more of Akira’s beautiful work, head over to his Facebook page.

Dino, heal thyself: Giant beast had power to shrug off bone trauma

allosaurus-skeleton

Researchers bombarded a toe bone from a giant carnivorous dinosaur, Allosaurus fragilis (shown here), finding that the beast apparently had an amazing power to heal its broken bones.Phillip Manning.

A giant carnivorous dinosaur apparently possessed an enormous power to heal its broken bones, thanks to new findings revealed by powerful X-rays, researchers say.

The new findings suggest this ancient predator could shrug off massive trauma, revealing the dinosaur healed well like reptiles do than more poorly like birds do, which dinosaurs are more closely related to, scientists added.

Dinosaur bones sometimes include evidence they cracked and mended while the reptiles lived. Such findings can yield insights into how much violence dinosaurs experienced, and whether they healed differently than other animals.

Analyzing fossils for signs of healed fractures often involves slicing through them, damaging these rarities. Now scientists have used intense X-rays with beams brighter than 10 billion suns to illuminate breaks hidden within the bones of a 150-million-year-old predatory dinosaur.

[Paleo-Art: Dinosaurs Come to Life in Stunning Illustrations]

The researchers examined a toe bone from a giant carnivorous dinosaur,Allosaurus fragilis, excavated from Utah. They bombarded the fossil with X-rays from the Diamond Light Source in England and the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource in California. Both light sources are synchrotrons, or particle accelerators that can generate powerful beams of light, which the investigators used to analyze the chemical nature of samples down to a resolution of 2 microns, or 1/50th the average diameter of a human hair.

There are subtle chemical differences between normal and healed bone tissue. The scientists discovered they could detect the “chemical ghosts” of ancient breaks.

“This is beyond recognizing a healed injury this is mapping the biological processes that enable that healing,” said study author Phillip Manning, a paleontologist and director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Ancient Life at the University of Manchester in England. “The ability to map the biological processes of healing allows great insight to the physiology and metabolism of animals. To extend this into the fossil record might provide new insight on many groups of vertebrates, not just dinosaurs.”

The researchers found this dinosaur could apparently shake off massive trauma, healing from injuries that would prove fatal to humans if not treated. Curiously, this fact suggests dinosaurs healed more effectively like reptiles such as crocodilians than less effectively like close dinosaur relatives such as birds, Manning told Live Science. One might speculate these differences are due in part to how birds typically possess hollow bones to lighten them for flight.

“This is the starting point in a new line of research that has a long way to go when comparing the chemistry of bone between species, both modern and extinct,” Manning said. “We are already looking at new techniques that might further expand our understanding of the growth, trauma and healing of bones in vertebrates.”

Manning and his colleagues detailed their findings online today (May 7) in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface.

78,000 APPLY FOR A ONE-WAY TICKET TO COLONIZE MARS

78,000 APPLY FOR A ONE-WAY TICKET TO COLONIZE MARS

SH 120_#2 BIG

Ever dream of living out your days on a hostile desert world, exiled from the garden planet of your youth? Who do you think you are? Paul Atreides? Well, maybe it’s not so strange. 78,000 Earthlings (and counting) share that dream. Since late April, the not-for-profit organization, Mars One, has been flooded with applications for a one-way ticket to colonize Mars in 2023.

The trip will be funded in part by proceeds from a reality television show (or as the firm calls it, a “global media event”) covering the epic journey from crew selection to colonization. The Mars One team hopes this media coverage will provide a significant influx of income to help back the estimated $6 billion project. Apart from television, funding may include sale of merchandise—t-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, and posters—donations (even Bitcoin donations!), and sponsorships.

SH 120_#3Anyone may apply to become a colonist, and the final crew (at which point, presumably, all participants will be qualified) will be voted to Mars by the viewing public. Applications so far represent a wide range of ages and nationalities, many of whom filmed a video for the Mars One home page. (Check the videos out here.)

The Mars One timeline goes like this. In 2013, the first candidate astronauts will be selected, and an Earthly version of the Mars habitat will be erected in a remote, hostile location. Televised astronaut training will go on in parallel to technical development, which will begin in 2014.

And here’s where things get ambitious.

In October 2016, a 2,500 kilogram supply ship (packed with spare parts, solar panels, and general supplies) will land on Mars. This alone would be a notable feat. No private firm has yet made it outside Earth orbit, though the Google Lunar X Prize may change that before it expires at the end of 2015. Mars, of course, is an even more ambitious target than the Moon.

Five years from now, in 2018, a Mars One rover will land and and nail down the settlement site. A second rover, two living units, two support units, and a second supply unit will land in 2021. The robotic rovers will prepare for the colonists as the life support systems make oxygen and water. And finally, in 2022, the Mars One transit vehicle will be launched in pieces, assembled in orbit, and carry the Mars One team to the Red Planet, landing in 2023.

SH 120_#6It took NASA, with a Cold War inspired blank check from Uncle Sam, about a decade to land on the Moon. It would be a stunning achievement if, in the same timeframe, a private firm not only landed the first humans on Mars, but established a permanent colony there.

Granted, Mars One proposes to stand on the shoulders of giants—using already existing tech, like SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket and Dragon capsule—whereas NASA was assembling said giants from the ground up. But the funding, training, and logistics of human travel to Mars are all unknowns. Perhaps this story gets more plausible as the years go by. Perhaps the opposite happens. Either way, dreaming big is the only way we’ll make this space exploration thing happen.

There are other private plans to go to Mars in the next decade or so too. Space tourist, Dennis Tito, is hoping to send a couple to Mars orbit and bring them safely back to Earth in 2018. Tito’s plan would be no small feat either, but logistically, far more simple. And if expertise, experience, and economics have anything to do with it, Elon Musk and SpaceX may well help lay down the first private prints on Martian soil.

But the private space age is still young. A lot can happen in ten years—new players, new plans, and new technology. Mars One is notable for the originality of its plan. Financing enormously expensive space expeditions with little to no expected economic return is a tough nut to crack. (SpaceX for example has said it would charge colonists $500,000 apiece.) Mars One may prove the doubters dead wrong. But let’s withhold judgement for a year or two at least.

For now, the most intriguing part of the Mars One story is just how many people are willing to leave Earth with no prospect of a return flight. Would you do it?
