Thanks Again!

untitled (28)Last week I went over the 600 mark for WordPress followers and over 4,000 for all media!  Thank you to all of you who make it exciting to share my eclectic and unusual blog with you.  We also passed the 630,000 hit mark this year which also rocks.  Remember, if you ever want to comment, or if you want to reach me personally, you can email me as well.  Also, for those of you who just read the blog, that is great, but I am also an indie published author and have four books out on Kindle at the moment.  Three are just 99 cents each, and the best and latest is just $2.99.  Feel free to check them out on the STORE tabe on my home page for this blog and let me know what you think.

Captain America

untitled (27)Sunday my wife and I watched Captain America, The Winter Soldier.  As fate would have it, Congressman Trent Franks and his awesome wife Josie went to see it at the same time at the same theater.  We’ve not seen them in a long time but I first met them back in 1989 and they are great people.  Ironically, the members of the House Armed Forces Committee call Trent Franks “Captain America” because of his well-known patriotism and commitment to veterans.  It was really good to see him and his wife still have a movie date night besides having young kids and his busy bi-coastal schedule between Arizona and Washington, D.C.

The movie was awesome.  One of the best I have seen in awhile.  Unfortunately, it was a bit violent for the people who brought their young children to see it.  I would recommend age 14 ate least.  There is not just killing, but tons of violence and action.  I will probably write a review, but until then, I recommend it if you are considering watching it to go out and enjoy it.

Bizarre Creatures Found in the Mariana Trench

Bizarre Creatures Found in the Mariana Trench.

Footballfish

Footballfish are deep-sea anglers that live in the Mariana Trench. They look like a football, thus the name. The lure on the top of their heads is what attracts their prey, which they then quickly snap up with their fierce jaws.

Hatchetfish

Hatchetfish are deep-sea fish that are not exclusive to the Mariana Trench, but are still odd-looking. The hatchetfish are special creatures because they are capable of producing their own light, which helps them escape from predators. At those depths, a built-in flashlight is handy to have!

Frilled Shark

Frilled sharks are one of the oldest species around and they lurk in the depths of the Mariana Trench. They’re hard to spot, which makes them terrifying to prey when they use their snake-like bodies to sneak around.

Dragonfish

If for some reason you find yourself at the depths of the Mariana Trench, you’ll spot the dragonfish thanks to its own bio-luminescence. Their distinctive flashing chin barbell helps lure both prey and potential mates, so beware.

 Blobfish

Ew! You’ll be surprised to know that when the blobfish is in water, it looks nothing like this gelatinous blob. It’s a deep-sea fish that lives in the deep waters and has been spotted in the Mariana Trench.

Barreleye

Barreleyes get their name from their barrel-shaped eyes that are directed upwards to detect their prey. They’re been found at depths of 2,000 feet and have highly sensitive eyes.

Goblin Shark

This shark is down-right terrifying, if you couldn’t tell from the .gif. They measure up to 13 feet long and can weigh up to 463 pounds. These scary sharks can pretty much swallow anything whole. Yikes.

Ping-Pong Tree Sponge

This sponge may look harmless, but it’s actually a carnivorous sponge. Its entire body is covered in tiny hairs that can hook any small creature that passes by. Once caught, the cells in the sponge move towards the prey and digest it. Creepy.

Pocket Sized Printer Moves Across Page

Pocket-Sized Wonder-Printer Would Work Its Own Way Across a Page

Pocket-Sized Wonder-Printer Would Work Its Own Way Across a Page

With what has to be one of the most ambitious Kickstarter projects to come along in a while, the folks behind this Mini Mobile Robotic Printer want to revolutionize the mobile office. Because of instead of carrying a page-wide device that has to pull paper through it, this little marvel will instead print directly on a piece of paper while it rolls around on top of it.

The printer’s arrow-shaped design makes it easy to properly position on a page—you just need to make sure it starts in the upper left-hand corner of a piece of paper. It works on any sized piece of paper, but with a standard letter-sized sheet the current prototype can fill a page in just under a minute.

Its built-in ink cartridge is promised to churn though around 1,000 pages before needing to be replaced, but that’s assuming every page you print isn’t solid black. And at the moment the print quality is a less-than-amazing 96×192 dpi, but it’s claimed that that will be improved if and when the Mini Mobile Robotic Printer becomes a reality.

Its creators are currently trying to raise $400,000 on Kickstarter to make it a reality, but there are certainly some very steep roadblocks to making it reliable and accurate enough to be worth carrying around. You can reserve one for yourself with a donation of $180, but you’ll have to be patient since delivery isn’t expected until early January 2015 at best.

Admittedly, it’s a little hard to get excited over a printer, especially one that seems so implausible. But if this thing ever does see the light of day, it will certainly be a must-have addition to any road warrior’s kit. And if you only find yourself in need of a printer a few times a week, it has the potential to replace that giant gray box on your desk. [Kickstarter via Pocket-lint]

Dad Who Makes School Lunch Art

Beau Coffron is a dad from SanFrancisco who sends his daughter to the school everyday with exquisite lunch designs that would make any child cry with envy. Even the cafeteria lady has to snap a quick shot when seeing these works of culinary genius come through the lunch doors. Must be nice to have your pick of the liter when it comes to trading for that capri-sun or pizza.

Do Vegetarians Die Earlier?

There are so many conflicting studies in healthcare.  Recent studies show that vegetarians actually die earlier than their meat eating counterparts.  Here are some recent story links:

I think in general, studies which say you are going to die from this or that just create fear and anxiety.  There should be a study that determines people who read medical studies have higher stress and die earlier.

Here is what I know to be true:

1) Being healthy is the slowest way to die.  You will still die.

2)  Eating a variety of foods in reasonable portions is healthy.

3) Reducing stress is very important.

4)  Regular exercise is very important.

5) Regular healthy sleep is important.

6)  Being positive is important.

7)  Having a pet adds years to your life.

8) Being married adds years to your life (though some say at too high a cost…)

9)  Drinking one ounce of alcohol per day is healthy.  (just like other medicines, you can’t take the whole week’s worth on Saturday night.)

Ignore negative studies, live your life, be happy.  You want to eat meat or not eat meat, have at it.
